Dog Sprayed By Skunk: What To Do Now

Plug your nose and open all the doors and windows your dog just came in smelling like a skunk or did he just roll in something dead. Either way, he stinks and you want to get rid of the smell fast. I found the all-time one treatment solution for that.

If your dog is like mine who loves to go outside and find the stinkiest thing to roll in or better yet loves to pester the family of skunks then he just has to come running into the house with the stench of what just died smell to spread the wealth. Well lucky for you I found something that works wonders.

Don’t grab that doggie shampoo that’s just for the dirt that’s easy to wash away. It only helps to make their fur nice and clean and soft. But it won’t touch that stench that’s making your eyes water

And forget about the Dawn dish soap that is good for cleaning dishes and getting rid of fleas and itchy skin on dogs. Unfortunately, it will only scratch the surface of the smell.

And whatever you do, don’t go grabbing that can of tomato sauce unless you were planning on making dinner. It just doesn’t work in the long run to keep the stink and smell away.

I myself have gone through a lot of cans of tomato sauce just to have the smell come back once it dries so what did I find that works you’ll need five things.

  1. Hydrogen Peroxide
  2. Baking Soda
  3. Giant Sponge
  4. Bucket
  5. Dog Leash

1) Add a good amount of baking soda into the bucket
2) Add enough water to make a wet paste
3) Put a leash on your poochie
4) Put the sponge in the bucket

Head on outside. You won’t want your dog shaking this all over your house and then have to try and clean it up. Dip the sponge into the mixture and dab it on all over your dog rubbing it lightly into your dog’s fur.

Avoid the eyes and nose at all costs this stuff could sting or make them sneeze and spraying it all over won’t be much fun.

You’ll understand what I mean about the clean-up when you allowed it to fully dry once it turns white and starts to flake off you know it’s done its job.

If you do this outside then there is no big deal let them run around and let it fall off them on its own. But if you have to do it inside do it in the bathroom and close the door.

Once it is completely dry and flaking off you can brush the rest off, or let it fall off by itself. Once you let your dog back into the house wherever he lays down or walks through you’ll have to vacuum or sweep it up.

Now for the moment of truth if you did it right your dog will smell like a dog and not the stench of death. If you can smell it on them then you will have to hit those areas again. Especially the first time you try this you may not get all the spots. It’s kinda hard to wipe them down with one hand while plugging your nose with the other.

If you have a dog that has super, super thick hair it will be hard to get down to the skin so do another round it won’t hurt, and at least this time you can use both hands to get them good and covered in it.

If your dog has short hair then one treatment should do, it’s as simple as that

I don’t think you would be rolling around in something dead or stinky, but If you decided that that family of skunks were just too cute and you just had to pet them and you got sprayed, then you are in luck. Because it works on humans too and not just humans or dogs but it works on the porch, furniture, the house, Etc….

This is a get-rid-of-smell solution that works I know I’ve used it a lot.

Very dumb dog.
